The FaceVar Lab is committed to translational research

Our applied researchers assess areas in which our scientific output can have real-world applications.

One of the ways in which we are working to achieve this applied goal is through our partnership with Delmont-ID - a training and consultancy firm which works to reduce identity fraud and use of false ID documents.

Face-Photo ID documents remain the main form of identity verification. At passport control, for example, we rely on the ability of  security staff to match the face of an unfamiliar person to their passport photo.

We are working with company director Russ Middleton to identify ways in which an improved understanding of the problem of within-person variability in face recognition could be used to reduce Photo-ID fraud.

Russ Middleton is an expert in identity fraud with 30 years experience working as a Detective in the Metropolitan Police and several other national law enforcement agencies.
